Can I Live Alone After Shoulder Replacement Surgery?

Can I Live Alone After Shoulder Replacement Surgery?

Absolutely.

We have patients go home to live alone all the time. You can start moving your arm immediately—dressing, doing your hair, using the restroom, feeding yourself, and driving your car. All those things are perfectly safe and patients can do them within two days after the surgery.

People have this picture in their mind that they are going to get their shoulder replaced, and the surgeon is going to make them stand, use a sling, and not move their arms at all for six weeks. We do not do that. That is not the case with our practice and with our patients.

We encourage and allow you to use your arm right away. It doesn’t injure the shoulder and doesn’t risk anything. It accelerates your recovery and makes your life a thousand times easier after surgery.

You can live alone, and many of our patients live alone and do not struggle at all after having their shoulders replaced.

Dr. Kevin Kruse prioritizes patient care and clear communication.
