Do You Get Stitches After Arthroscopic Shoulder Surgery?

The answer is yes.

We make little poke holes in the shoulder. There are 3 or 4 little pokes, and then there is one stitch to close the poke hole.

You can come into the office in ten days and take those out. It’s pretty quick. I have a lot of patients who fly in to see us and have their surgery, then fly out the next day. We just send them home with little scissors so they can take them out themselves.

It’s really quick to remove the sutures. For our open surgeries, we put all the stitches underneath the skin for scopes. I’ve tried that, but it makes things a bit more complicated with the portals. So it’s easier for the patient to pop out a single stitch after ten days, and you’re good.
