This is a review of the literature regarding the various uses of ultrasound in the shoulder

2015

University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, Pittsburgh, PA
Collaborators: Chris Schmidt, MD
This is a systematic review of the use of ultrasound in the shoulder by orthopaedic surgeons. In addition the results of a survey regarding the use of ultrasound by the members of the American Shoulder and Elbow Society

2014

University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, Pittsburgh, PA
Collaborators: Christopher Schmidt, MD
This is a human cadaver study describing the anatomic, arthrosopic, and biomechanical properties of the rotator cable. It will equate the variations in the anatomy of the rotator cable with differences in the stress/strain characteristics acrossthe rotator cuff tendon.

Past Research Experience:

2013

Steadman Hawkins Clinic of the Carolinas, Greenviille, SC
Collaborators: Michael Kissenberth, MD
A description of a novel all inside arthroscopic tenodesis technique with the KFx anchor system

2011

SteadmanHawkins Clinic of the Carolinas, Greenville, SC
Collaborators: Richard Hawkins, MD; Michael Kissenberth, MD; Grant Bennett, MD; Christopher Baker, MD
To examine the comparative diagnostic accuracy of orthopaedic sports medicine fellows and orthopaedic surgery residents (after a concentrated training program and with no prior experience in musculoskeletal ultrasound) to diagnose full thickness rotator cuff tears using ultrasound imaging alone, with accuracy equal to that in the published literature

2008

Shelbourne Knee Clinic Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis, IN
Collaborator: K. Donald Shelbourne,MD
The research involved searching current literature to support a prior paper written by Dr. Shelbourne describing a proposed mechanism for non-contact ACL injuries.

2008

IU Department of Orthopaedics, Indianapolis, IN
Collaborator: Brian H. Mullis,MD
Injuries to the ankle syndesmosis typically require surgical intervention. The anatomic reduction is checked post op with traditional radiographs. This is the first investigation to assess syndesmotic reduction with the more reliable CT criteria and to correlate this data with functional and subjective outcomes. This data will provide a foundation for future investigations to improve reduction and fixation of this complex injury.

2006

IU Department of Orthopaedics, Indianapolis, IN
Collaborator: Stephen Trippel,MD
The research was based on cartilage regeneration. Chondrocytes were extracted from bovine cartilage. They were then grown on disks of bovine articular cartilage that had been treated with various enzymes. The goal was to disrupt that surface of the inherently slick articular cartilage enough to allow for the adhesion of the chondrocytes.
